Composition Program, Department of Humanities, Parkland College

I created this webpage to explain what the college composition program aims for to high schools in the Champaign area. As a program, we hope to work with the high schools to better prepare the students. Please check out both the videos and the documents uploaded to this page.

The two videos below explain what the composition program offers, the assessment tools used to place students into the composition program, the criteria employed to determine ENG 101 readiness, curriculum requirements, and learning outcomes.   While the first video focuses on the composition program and assessment, the second video focuses on describing what ENG 101 is about.

The three documents  below are ENG 101 course information form, a sample ENG 101 student paper that highlights what faculty is looking for in a passing 101 paper, and a sample ENG 99 student paper that indicates readiness to take ENG101. For the sample ENG101 paper, please refer to the comments added in the margin. The ENG 99 paper has some end notes that justify why this student is considered as capable of handling ENG 101 work.
